RTR Street Style Contest at Binghamton University
by RTR On Campus on Jun 1, 2011 • 3:57 pm No CommentsI love the idea of sharing the perfect solution to having an overflowing dorm closet but nothing to wear with the girls at my school, since we all faced the same dilemma of photos tagged on Facebook: it either looks like you never go shopping, or that you have only had one really interesting, long night in your life. After signing up as a Campus Representative, I was eager to plan my first major promotional event during the spring semester at Binghamton University, a part of the State University of New York (SUNY), and reach out to all of the students interested in saving money and looking great. Staying in touch with the trendsetting nature of students who turn to fashion blogs for inspiration, I decided to host a “Street Style Contest” on Facebook.
All of the pictures for the contest, which were immediately posted on the Rent the Runway at Binghamton Unviersity page, were taken over the weekend of Spring Fling. Practically the entire student body showed up for the festival attractions and student group showcases during the day, and free outdoor concert at night featuring musical acts from Super Smash Bros, Far East Movement, and Taking Back Sunday. To make sure that nobody was overlooked, I also planned to hit the bars downtown in the late evening, where there would be the most social activity.
Since the contest was all about RTR, myself and a friend alternated wearing the Temperley London Mini Corry Dress, Hervé Léger Sedona Sunrise Dress, and the Nicole Miller All Laced Up Dress over the weekend, approaching fashionable strangers about entering the contest while showing them the website had something for everyone. Two professional photographers accompanied us while we casually approached girls and asked them to pose for a portrait holding a sign reading “I ♥ RTR, Rent The Runway,” explaining they could win a gift card from RTR by receiving the most “likes” on their photo.
Scattered showers during the day didn’t keep our most stylish away or from using social media to spread the word about RTR, since we immediately saw a huge spike in the number of fans, and girls changing their profile pictures to improve their chances in winning the contest! And thanks to a spontaneous photo shoot, I wound up with some gorgeous shots of my own!
Love. Wear. Return.
