Bill Blass once said, “When in doubt, wear red,” and celebrities this season are doing just that. Designers like Dior and Giambattista Valli showcased shades of red and orange from tomato red to blood orange, so this trend is one that looks good on any skin tone. I know I generally think of Fall as the most muted season in terms of color palettes, but this year I vote that we usher in the changing leaves and the cooler temperatures with some positive energy. Show off those warm tones against your summer tan while you’ve still got it!
Keep yourself looking fierce and all around fiery by taking a cue from celebs like Selita Ebanks who sports red from head to toe. This look is quite the bold statement, so keep in mind that you have to have a winning attitude as the final touch on your ensemble.
Like most of the world, I have to shop on a less than famous budget, so if you’re gunning for a hot new dress for a night out, look no further than Rent the Runway for a visionary gown without tearing a hole in your wallet. I love three dresses in particular that can be rocked with all red accessories, or a more toned down look (see below). I actually wore the BCBG gown for my birthday dinner- it’s surprising how much you can do with a simple red dress!
If you’re a little less daring, feel free to experiment with bits of red. Adithi (my sister) shows how to take a simple red dress and turn it into a nighttime look.
To keep it brief, flaming tones are here to stay, so don’t throw out your summer wardrobe just yet. Mix it in with some standard pieces -a blazer, a jacket, a pair of flats, some heels- and you have a solid fall wardrobe. Have a relaxed end of summer, and if you’re going out, don’t forget your sunscreen!
