So we’re in week 2 of our formalwear extravaganza. Today I unleashed coupon codes for my sorority sisters, so it’s only a matter of time before we’re all tearing up the website looking for what to wear. The key trend that I would like to highlight has everything to do with shine, glamour and appeal.

Finals period is the absolute worst part of the semester. Late nights coupled with caffeine overdosing and lack of proper nutrition leaves a girl absolutely crazy. But what is the one way to spice it up? Fashion of course! With all of my fellow collegians in mind, I bring you a trend so hot, so fierce, only the Oscar statue rocks it better than celebs can…

All I do is win...

As to avoid defeating the point and keeping you away from your mounds of homework, or your families since it’s Thanksgiving Break, I’ll get straight to the point. Celebs are all about shining brighter than the stars that they are, taking advantage of rich shades of gold. From Emma Watson to JLo, glamorous gold dresses flatter EVERY skin tone.

The key to wearing a gold dress is not going overboard with accessories. What this means is that your dress is your statement piece – keep makeup simple and maybe just wear earrings. Heels in a simple color are also a major do, they keep you looking refined and classy. If you’re wearing a floor length gown, you can even get away with flats (your feet will thank you later). And for all of my Pi Phi sisters looking for dresses – here are a few of my favorites from Rent the Runway that make you look like a million bucks…but certainly don’t cost that much!  (PS you can go to the Dress Section, go down to color, and just click gold if you want to see every option in the book!)

For a floor length look try the Badgley Mischka Screen Siren Gown or the Nicole Miller Drop Dead Gold Gorgeous Gown. While I’m no stylist, I think an athletic body looks INCREDIBLE in dresses like these that show off curves as well as muscle tone. What’s more beautiful than strength?

Above is the Nicole Miller gown – and the model has it down pat. Simple shoes, sleek hair and earrings are certainly the way to go. But if you’re a bit more shy, or just don’t feel like having your dress hit the ground, there are shorter styles that are just as formal-ready. You can try this dress by Alice and Olivia that’s gold all over.

Or if you just want that slight hint  of sparkle, you can go for this Confetti Sequin Dress brought to you by Tibi.

Ladies – now is the time to order your dresses for formal! If you wait until the last minute, you could end up with a broken heart on Black Friday, because someone else got that fab gold gown. This season there are thousands upon thousands of trends to try, but if you’re feeling kind of bold, gold is the way to go. Take the hint from James Bond, va-va-voom up with some gold – shaken, not stirred.

Until next time,
