Next Tuesday, I’ll be curled up in bed doing reading and reviewing for my presentation Wednesday morning. Sure, that’s not the most romantic way to spend a Valentine’s Day, but this year -like just about every year- I’m flying solo. Surprisingly, as the years have gone by, I am not as easily upset by this revelation. On the 15th, two of my single friends and I will be heading out to the Melting Pot for a fondue dinner. While it’s amazing to celebrate the love you feel for someone else, what about celebrating the fabulous person you are? This Valentine’s Day, I’m going to be my own valentine, and Rent the Runway will help me do just that.

With my favorite single ladies- Alana, Emily and Emily at the Melting Pot in October

How exactly can RTR make a difference in a single’s day celebration? Well, the way I hype myself up for a night out with my girls is that we plan even more fabulous things to do for the semester. In January, my friend Emily K. (second from the right) and I exchanged our semester goals. One of mine was to have more fun–and to document that taking place! I made a list of fantasy dresses if you will, to wear by the end of 2012. Each of them appeals to a brand new trend that I will talk about on this blog in upcoming weeks!

Goal #153329789: Find a dress that embodies elegance and a little bit of risk!

1) Neutral dresses with a pop of bright accessories and makeup- As anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m not super bold. I will look at bright lipstick, say that I wish I could wear it, and then run out of Sephora wishing I had some guts. This semester that’s about to change. I’m taking a cue from RTR’s own Babbet Lace Shift Dress by Tibi, and I will certainly follow the below styling. Talk about a perfect look for my sister’s graduation in June!

2) Floor sweeping gowns- It seems like everyone in my life is getting married or engaged this summer. I can’t think of a better time than to try to wear a long dress, can you? The Avio Blue Chiffon Gown is perfect for an evening wedding reception, and really complements a darker skin tone.

3) Highlighter Bright Dresses- In a beyond shocking move, celebrities continued to show highlighter shade dresses, even at the Golden Globes. Why can’t I start this trend on camps? Well, in May, many students head over to Preakness, and supposing that my major goal is to get out and enjoy my last few semesters of college, I’ll be there, hopefully in the You Flirt in Fuschia Dress.

4) Classy Cut Outs- There’s a way to be chic, cute, and absolutely fabulous with cut outs. My fashion mission for Spring Formal is to find the perfect dress that shows off my (hopeful) yoga body after months of Bikram. I’m looking at this South Beach Sunset Dress by Pencey as a reward for a period of healthy eating and tons of exercise. (side note: I would love any motivation you can offer so that I will actually stay on track and be able to wear this dress comfortably in May!)

Now that you have an idea of my semester fashion goals, I’m curious to hear about yours. And to all of you ladies heading out with a valentine next week, have a great time! Make sure to check out RTR for a comfy, cute, and fantastic selection of dresses to make your night special. To my single ladies- we should take this chance to celebrate what makes us special. Besides, we can spend the 14th night booking the dresses for all of our fun semester outings!! I know I will!

Until next time,
