Madge has done it again with her video for “Girl Gone Wild,” the second single off her latest album MDNA, which drops March 26. The ever reigning Queen of Pop has never been one to shy away from baring her Pilates toned body or stirring up a little controversy. The bottom-line is, she’s Madonna and she can do whatever she wants.
As I watched the black and white video, directed by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, I couldn’t help but notice a striking similarity to Lady Gaga’s 2010 “Alejandro.” Gaga’s scandalous video portrayed nuns swallowing their rosary beads, male dancers in heels, and Gaga herself with machine guns protruding from her bra. The taut bodies of the male dancers strutting their stuff in platform stilettos in Madonna’s video bare a resemblance to say the least.
“Girl Gone Wild” seems to pay homage to some of her most infamous video moments from the sexually explicit “Erotica” to “Like a Prayer.” The sexy 53 year old brought back her iconic cutoff mesh gloves with a modern twist for the video and can be seen dangling from chains among many other compromising positions. There has always been controversy between gaga and Madonna. Whether it be gaga copying Madonna or the other way around… But they’re both amazing icons despite their similarities in taste.
