When news broke out last July that there would be two adaptations of the Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I thought “why would there be two of the same movie coming out in the same year?” One close look at the trailers, and these two movies are far from similar. The first, Relativity Media’s Mirror, Mirror, hits theaters this Friday and stars Lily Collins as the title role, while the second, Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, opens June 1 and stars Kristen Stewart.

Mirror, Mirror is being promoted as a comedy, with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. But let’s be honest, we could never see Julia portraying the hideous ice queen, so it seems accurate that it’s supposed to be a funny movie. Rounding out the cast is Broadway vet Nathan Lane and Armie Hammer (you know, the guy who played the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network) as the Prince.

At first glance, Snow White and the Huntsman seems more action-adventure and less fairytale-ish. Instead of being summoned to eat a poisoned apple to be killed, the Huntsman is ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed, but ends up becoming her protector in a quest to defeat the Evil Queen. The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, who seems more suited for the Evil Queen than Julia Roberts.

So, let’s ask the Mirror himself: Will Lily or Kristen be the fairest of them all?
