We’ve been seeing red lips all over the red carpet this year, but don’t think that the rouge is only meant for Hollywood and glamour. Red lips are dramatic but don’t be mistaken, this look can be worn everyday! Rosy lips are no longer only for night-time looks, this summer, rock a red lip with confidence. I was dying to wear a red lip, but I didn’t feel like I could pull it off until Christmas rolled around, I hid behind the idea of a holiday look so I could finally try out my new red lipstick. I was afraid to wear such a statement color, but I was wrong! A red lip looks fabulous on everyone and is one hundred percent appropriate for day-time and especially summer-time. The key to wearing a red lip is to find the perfect red for your skin tone and keeping the rest of your face in a neutral state (unless of course you’re glamming it up for a night out!). Here is an easy key for picking the right color for your skin-tone:

Women with more pink complexions work better with reds closer to a plum color, while women with more yellow tones in their skin can go darker to reds with brown undertones. If you have multiple red lipsticks in your makeup bag already but none match your skin-tone correctly, don’t feel like you need to run out and buy a new color. First, try and blend your old lipsticks, see if their combination makes your perfect red color! A lot of makeup artists use this technique to create custom colors for their clients and it is a money saver! Remember that the paler you are the more dramatic your red lip will seem, so if you’re worried about making too big a statement, make sure you get your summer tan in first!

Another way to ensure your day-time look is to make sure the rest of your makeup in neutral. Mascara on your top and bottom lashes and a little tinted moisturizer for shine! Check out my favorite summer products here. Don’t shy away from a red lip this summer, keep the rest of your face naked and skinny-dip with your red lip! It will be an eye-catching look all summer and perfect for 4th of July festivities!
