Of all of the award shows on television throughout the year, I have to say the Tony Awards, are my absolute favorite. Not only do I love the awards material, but also the entire show is entertaining and glamorous. The entire awards ceremony was over the top, starting with the hilarious opening number by Neil Patrick Harris entitled, “What if Life were More Like Theater.” The presenters oozed star power as they took the microphone and the winners from every category were humbled by the honor that solidified their spot on the Great White Way.
As with every awards show, my favorite part of the evening is before the curtains even rise as the attendees walk the red carpet. Because the Tony Awards honor performers of all ages, the dresses seen on the red carpet are extremely versatile. While some stars took a risk, other Broadway veterans were stunning in classic gowns. Some of my personal favorites included Amanda Seyfried and Anne Hathaway; while both ladies are starring in the upcoming film rendition of Les Miserables, Amanda also had the honor of being featured in Neil Patrick Harris’ opening number. These two beautiful women donned very different, but equally as fun, knee length dresses. These two dresses were the epitome of classic with a twist. One of my personal favorite performers Bernadette Peters, who took home the prestigious Isabelle Stevenson award, wore a stunning floor length purple down in a deep purple. She could not have chosen a better to compliment her infamous red curly hair. One other star that needs mentioning is another one of my favorites Audra McDonald, who is currently starring in the long awaited revival of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Audra looked radiant in a vibrant blue gown with a one-shoulder neckline that let her natural beauty shine through.

With Rent the Runway’s incredible selection of designer dresses and gowns, people sitting at home merely watching the Tony’s now have the opportunity to dress as though they were about to walk across that same stage- for a fraction of the price!
