Even though I go to school in Boston at Tufts University (see http://www.renttherunway.com/tufts), I am lucky enough to call San Francisco, California home.  I love coming home to see old friends, spend time with my family and avoid the sporadic Boston summers.  Even though we do not suffer from humidity (my hair thanks me!), it can get quite hot.  While an average day may be eighty-five degrees, it can easily reach up to one hundred degrees in parts of Southern California, like Los Angeles.  Here are a few simple, and affordable, tips for beating the heat so you still look cool, even if you are burning on the inside.

When the suns rays beat down on you, it seems like is nearly impossible to keep your makeup looking as good as when it was first applied.  One of my favorite products that I love all year, but especially during the summer, is Aveeno’s Perfectly Radiant Tinted Moisturizer.  This light moisturizer has SPF 30, light reflecting minerals and the perfect amount of coverage, all while staying light for summer.

Also, from experience I advise not to even bother straightening your hair.  The minute you start to sweat, all your hard work will have gone to waste.  Keep your hair healthy and happy by giving it a break from all those products! Twist it into a ballet-style bun (I’m obsessed with goody spin pins- and yes, they actually work) after you get out of the cool shower at night.  Simply remove in the pins in the morning for perfect tousled waves.

Even though makeup and hair are fun, I definitely love using the summer as an excuse to wear fun and colorful dresses.  To stay stylish and chic, a loose dress in a light color is perfect.  Try this Yumi Kim Dress that is easy to dress up with heals or dress down in sandals.  Another great option is the Thakoon Midori Maxi.   If long dresses aren’t your thing (I don’t wear them because I’m so short!), try the Shoshanna Springtime Air Dress.  The bright colors and patterns are perfect for summer!
