This past weekend, downtown San Francisco seemed to clear out as most of the Bay Area flocked to Golden Gate Park for the annual Outside Lands music festival. This was my first time going to the festival, and I honestly had no idea what to expect in terms of the music, food and what people were wearing. After recovering from being on my feet from eleven in the morning until about eleven at night, I can conclude that I had a great time. This festival captured the essence of San Francisco- fun, youthful and unique.
and thats only one stage…
Besides great music, this festival also boasted fantastic food from some of the most famous eateries around the Bay Area. Some of my favorite restaurants, including Kara’s Cupcakes (easily the best cupcake I have ever eaten) had stands, or even trendy food trucks. The food at Outside Lands was definitely not your average festival food.
With crowds so big, it is nearly impossible to describe the fashion seen at the festival. Girls were wearing everything from cut off jean shorts with tights and boots, to maxi dresses and everything in between. I also saw lots of oversized sweaters and jackets as both a fashion statement and an attempt to stay warm.
what I mean by “big crowds”
If anyone is considering attending next summer- GO! It was a great experience full of music, culture and spirit. That being said, I have two recommendations. The first is dress in layers. I cannot emphasize this enough. Even though it is summer in California, Golden Gate Park was covered in a blanket of fog for most of the weekend. Also, comfortable shoes are a must. Because there are so many musical acts, Outside Lands had six different music stages dispersed among the park. If you want to bounce around from artist to artist, expect to do a lot of walking on uneven terrain. Even though I was exhausted and could barely walk the next day, it was so worth it. And to anyone who went all three days this year- I am very impressed.
