Baz Luhrmann director of Romeo + Juliet brings us another classic novel turned film adoption. The best-selling novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald is now coming to the big screen in 2013. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan.

The story set in New York during the 1920s about the aspiring stockbroker Nick Carraway. Carraway and Daisy Buchanan rekindle their friendship being that they are cousins. Nick is informed of his neighbor Jay Gatsby and learns that Jay is known for his extravagant parties for the elite. When Jay and Nick start becoming closer Nick learns of Jay and Daisy’s love that was broken by the First World War. Nick soon becomes tangled between the two trying to recreate their past. Nick soon starts to learn that wealth and greatness is not always as amazing as it seems.

The Great Gatsby has been one of my all time favorite books since I first read it freshman year of high school. Everything about the 1920s interests me. Particularly I am interested in the fashion during that era. Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin, who did the costumes for Moulin Rouge! and also won an Academy Award for the movie, did the costuming for the movie and by looks of it the clothing is beyond beautiful.

The original release date for the movie was December 2012, but it was pushed back to summer 2013. I do not know about anyone else but I am more than excited to see this movie when it comes out in the summer!
