The semester has just flown by so quickly that it’s right up to our first midterms now. As everyone settles into the library more than once on the weekend, the weather has been settling into typical Michigan weather as well. Hot one moment, cold the next, windy, chilly-you name it, we’ve got it. The real question is: what do you wear when the weather is so variable? Will it be too warm for the chunky knit sweater you were planning on wearing this morning when it was 40 degrees outside? Because you know at lunchtime it will be much warmer, and even sunny enough maybe to warrant a pair of sunglasses. And by then you just will not have time to stop back at your dorm or apartment to change into something lighter. The dilemma!
Don’t worry, it’s not actually that hard to dress for the whole day and not be too hot or too cold. There are three essentials to mastering this.
1. Layering. The t-shirt under the cardigan is a classic look. Cardigans are easy to take on and off, and are perfect over almost anything. I’m especially obsessed with this Kate Spade Cardigan from Nordstrom.
It’s so simple and it goes with everything!
2. A big bag. This bag will fit all of your essentials: sunglasses, jewelry, planner, water bottle, a scarf, gum… You name it, it should be able to fit into it. My favorite is the Longchamp Le Pliage, although a big Vera bag will work just as well. You can find both at Neiman Marcus.
3. Fall boots. These should fit comfortably and go with everything. A nice leather riding boot goes a long way towards making you look put together and classy, while still being weather appropriate and comfy. I’ve been wearing these stunners I picked up at Ralph Lauren. It can be hard to justify spending so much on boots, but think of it as an investment. A high quality leather boot will last you a long time.
4. I know I said there were only three but as a quick, easy way to update your look from fall boring to fall amazing, add some killer accessories. No matter how neutral the colors that you wear are, the accessories definitely don’t have to be. Consider adding this gorgeous Dannijo necklace on Rent the Runway to take your look from plain to “major” in one easy swoop.
It’s easy to forget about what you’re wearing when school gets tough, but these easy essentials will make looking classy a breeze.
