As classes are beginning again, campus life is resuming and social events are coming up in full swing. Whether you’re headed for spring rush, formals, class parties, a special dinner, or any other event, why go out and buy a dress for each occasion when you can conveniently rent new looks right from your laptop for a fraction of retail prices? It’s a good thing that we have plenty of inspiration to look to, with celebrities at Hollywood award ceremonies and of course, photos straight from the runway! Here are some looks to make your moments memorable this spring semester:
Z Spoke Zac Posen, Grand Scheme Dress
Red is THE dress color this season. Many celebrities were spotted in red at the Golden Globes, most notably Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel, and Claire Danes. It’s perfect for a spring formal or any dressy event, and the cut is so classic. The cinched bust and full skirt elongate the legs. Finish up the look with sparkly earrings like the Crystal Romantic Earrings by Erickson Beamon and you’ll be sure to stand out in this bold number.
Tracy Reese, Not Over You Dress
We’re seeing peplum on tops, dresses, skirts, just about everywhere this season. However, peplum can be a little tricky to pull off depending on your body type and how much the fabric comes out from the garment. I like how the peplum on this dress is not too dramatic. It very slightly comes out and looks seamless. The little slit in the back makes the dress less business and more cocktail. To add more glam, try completing the look with an over-the-top statement necklace like the Ismene Bib Necklace by Dannijo.
And now for a crowd-favorite, the Amber Glow Dress by Hervé Léger has such a pretty peach color that is sure to look good on any skintone. Embrace spring’s fresh and minimal aesthetic à la Prada Spring RTW 2013 with light make-up around the eyes and a bright red lip. With Hervés hugging curves in all the right places, you’ll get so many compliments all throughout the night! Finish off the look with a clutch like the Gold Mesh Glam Clutch by Whiting & Davis.
Sachin + Babi, Pink Gravel Sheath
Offering another take on the peplum trend, this Sachin + Babi dress would be perfect for your next big presentation, interview, or dinner. I love how the peplum on this number is not completely obvious, so it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard to be on trend. Despite the dress seeming more for a serious occasion, the grey gradation with the pop of pink makes the dress fun, unlike your standard business attire! Play with the colors and try using pink eyeshadow (à la Donna Karan Spring RTW 2013) to add another element of surprise. Accessorize this look with the Butterfly Pendant Necklace by Anton Heunis.
Camilla and Marc, Peep Show Shoulder Dress
This is one of my favorite dresses on Rent the Runway. It can be worn for almost any type of occasion. Even though it looks simple, the cutouts on the shoulder add edge, and you can totally accessorize it to fit your style. (Trust me, this dress begs to be accessorized!) If you want to be modern, go with an art deco necklace like the Gold Tetra Necklace by AV Max. If you want to be classic, skip the necklace and go for a glamorous ring like the Amethyst Collage Ring by Erickson Beamon. Whatever you choose to accessorize this dress with, you cannot go wrong!
