First impressions are daunting. No matter if you are a Freshman or a Senior, a bad hair day, fading makeup, or a lackluster outfit are the last things you want to worry about when trying to leave a good and lasting impression. With all of the stress heading back to school, you shouldn’t have to sweat the small stuff- I did it for you!
Late August, I head back to Williamsburg, VA for my final year of college. Scary on one hand because this is the finale, but comforting on the other because I’m now one of those super cool seniors, whom everyone looks up to. Right? While that’s still up in the air, I always start the school year with a new look – whether it’s my wardrobe, my hair cut, you name it. Last year, I dyed my hair a dark red! But since I can’t part with my long locks quite yet, I think this year’s change will be easy and definitely won’t break this college girl’s budget: a new eye makeup routine. Continue reading →
I started as an Associate Brand Manager at Neutrogena Cosmetics 7 months ago, and was pleasantly surprised to find that working in Marketing is just as great as I had hoped it would be. I work on the Neutrogena Cosmetics business specifically, and as if getting to play with makeup everyday weren’t enough, a couple weeks ago I was given the amazing opportunity to attend Rent the Runway’s 2013 College Capstone Weekend in NYC. Neutrogena was sponsoring the event, and so I went as a brand ambassador. I was blown away by both the opportunities that Rent the Runway provided as well as the attendees.
Friday night I attended the kick-off event at Avenue in New York City with over 200 Rent the Runway reps. From the blow dry bar to the nail art station to the Neutrogena Cosmetics makeover area, there was everything you needed to get a full head to toe glam look, perfect for a Friday night. While at the event I was able to chat with a bunch of the attendees. Not only did they look amazing in their Rent the Runway outfits, but their knowledge and passion for fashion and entrepreneurship was very impressive and many seemed far wiser than their college years. Though hearing surprise guest Lo Bosworth from ‘The Hills’ discuss her new company was a highlight of the evening, I must say the best part was getting a chance to meet all the amazing students.
The fun continued Saturday at the all-day training marketing bootcamp that took place at the XO Group’s office in Downtown NYC. I got to sit in on talks by marketing and fashion executives like the editor of Lucky, who educated me on the latest 2013 trends and justified my weekend shopping trip. I then presented on Neutrogena’s history, specifically how we were able to transition from a small soap producer to the international beauty company that we are today. I stressed the importance of gaining the expert endorsement of Dermatologists in growing our brand, and how making our consumers brand advocates via social media is crucial to our marketing strategy today. To show the importance of social media, we challenged the Capstone attendees to create shareable pieces of content for Instagram and Facebook using a few Neutrogena products. In just 5 minutes, the girls were able to create a series of really engaging and well designed images that communicated the Neutrogena brand in a simple but effective way. We were so in love with the images that we decided to post a few of our favorites on our Facebook page, you can check them out https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151346200736260.1073741826.7717041259&type=1.
Being able to attend the Rent the Runway capstone weekend was an amazing experience. I was truly inspired by the creativity, passion, energy and intelligence of the students I met, and have no doubt that I encountered many future entrepreneurs, fashion executives and CMOs.
In the home stretch between midterms and final exams, life can get stressful for any college student. Luckily, a nice spa day can always clear away the anxiety, at least for a couple of hours. But if you are low on funds as the semester draws to a close, try this DIY project to help create a soothing environment in the comfort of your own apartment.
If you do not have the luxury of a bathtub while away at school, file this project away to use over the summer, or use it to add a personal touch to a Mother’s Day gift!
Lavender – Scent of Ultimate Relaxation (Source – Lori & Todd)
What You’ll Need:
2 Cups of Epsom Salts
1 Cup of Sea Salt (high quality)
1 ½ Cups of Oatmeal
½ Ounce of Lavender Essential Oil - Inhaling this fragrance has been said to calm nerves and lift depression.
Glass / Plastic Airtight Container
Measure out the salts and mix them together well, making sure to break up any clumps. The more broken up they are, the faster they dissolve.
Grind the oatmeal finely in a food processor or spice grinder, until it is about the consistency of sugar or salt.
Add the salt mixture to the oatmeal.
Add the essential oil. I love lavender in soothing and relaxing bath salt blends…but you can use any fragrance or essential oil blend you like.
Mix everything together well.
Scoop the salts into jars or other airtight containers.
Add the oatmeal-salts to briskly running water and enjoy a soothing and stress-relieving soak.
In honor of the year of emerald, check out the ways Sephora suggests rocking the classic gem tone.
I love how each year you can see traces of Pantone’s color of the year throughout fashion, interior design and even beauty trends. Thought green eye shadow was just for the 80s? Think again! Sephora and Pantone have teamed up to create emerald eye shadow palletes and nail polishes that are modern and glam. Don’t be afraid to try a bold, green look this year. After all, you won’t be judged - it is the color of the year, and I think Pantone knows what they’re talking about.
